My 5 Minute Everyday Makeup Routine

With the Sephora Beauty Insider Summer Bonus Event going on, I thought it would be fun to share my everyday makeup routine with you. I like to keep things super simple and natural looking, and I don’t like to spend a lot of time on it. I’ve got my everyday makeup routine down to a science and it takes me all of 5 minutes. Now that’s a makeup routine that works for me!

Half of the products I use are from Sephora and the other half are from my other favorite store, Target. I don’t believe you have to spend an arm and a leg on quality makeup. You won’t find me spending $25+ on mascara when I can get my go-to mascara duo for much less than that.

So keep on scrolling to check out the products I use for my everyday makeup routine. I broke it down into sections: face, eyes, lips and brushes. I’ve included links to everything plus the shade and/or color I use, too.

FACE

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 - I wear sunscreen every single day, it is so important! I love this tinted sunscreen from Drunk Elephant for so many reasons. It’s made with clean and natural ingredients, it doesn’t leave a greasy or caked on feeling, and it’s a super natural glow/tint to your skin that makes it perfect for those no makeup makeup days. I like putting this on my face first, almost like a tinted primer…but it’s sunscreen.

bareMinerals Matte Loose Powder Mineral Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 - I absolutely love this stuff! I’ve been using it since I was in college and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. They were one of the first clean beauty brands on the market, plus it has SPF which is a win-win in my book. The formula is super lightweight and I opt for the matte powder; just a personal preference and feel it works best with my skin. I use this in shade 12 [medium beige] as my all over face foundation. Then, instead of using actual bronzer, I use a complimentary shade that is a bit darker instead. I was finding that bronzer was just not looking natural on my pale skin and going this route has worked out perfectly! For my “bronzer,” I use shade 20 [golden tan]. I apply it to my hairline and as contour [I’m no makeup wizard but just kind of fake it], basically in spots where the sun would naturally hit your face.

*A quick bronzer trick:

  • If you’re not into eyeshadow or you are traveling and don’t want to pack a million makeup products, you can use your bronzer as eye shadow! Just use the remaining product leftover on your brush and sweep it across your lids. It’s a super easy way to amp up your everyday look with a product you’re already using! [shout out to Courtney Shields for this trick]

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush - anyone else think finding the perfect blush shade is like finding a needle in a hay stack?! Okay, maybe it’s just me or it’s the 20+ years of competitive dance stage makeup that made finding a natural looking color seem impossible. Thankfully, a few years ago I stumbled upon this blush from Tarte and I’ve been in love since. Again, it’s a clean beauty product with no parabens and all that crap. It also doesn’t have any shimmer to it which is another win-win…I am not a shimmery makeup type of girl! I use this in the shade exposed which is a really pretty nude pink.

EYES

E.l.f. Everyday Smoky Eyeshadow Palette - on an everyday basis I typically don’t wear eyeshadow. If I want a little pop, I’ll do the bronzer trick I shared above. I do like to add some brightness to the corners of my eyes and under my eyebrows so I’ll use one of the 2 lightest shades from this palette for that. I’ll just use my ring finger and gently apply a small amount to those areas. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll even use it as highlighter on my cheekbones. [This palette is great for a natural smoky eye and I use it for any and all events or special occasions. The nude rose gold palette is also really pretty.]

L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara - this mascara is the bomb dot com. I have fairly long eyelashes [at least I think I do!] but the ends of them are very light, almost blonde. This telescopic mascara not only enhances the natural length of my lashes, but adds more to them. It’s a very small, thin wand which makes application super smooth. I use this just on my top lashes and use it in the shade black.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara - I know using 2 different mascaras seems silly but they both do different things! Voluminous lash paradise brings the volume and they never look clumpy or like spiders on your eyes which is a huge win. I use this on my top and bottom lashes, and I bounce between using this in the shade black or blackest black [basically the same thing to be honest].

*A couple of mascara tips & tricks:

  • To avoid clumps, start at the root of your eyelashes and wiggle the mascara wand to the tips. This also ensures you have product on all of your lashes.

  • If you “warm” the mascara up, it applies even smoother. Yes, I know this sounds super weird but it really works! I’ll either pop them in my pocket while I do my face makeup, or heck - sometimes I even stick them in my bra. The warmth from your body helps to warm the formula up and it seriously goes on so much easier and smoother. Don’t knock this trick until you try it!

  • Don’t pump the mascara!! This doesn’t get any additional product on the wand and actually pulls air into the tube which dries the product out. Basically just “dip” the wand in, pull it out and apply.

LIPS

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 - this has been my go-to this summer for lips! It’s super moisturizing and has SPF which is an added bonus, especially in the summer. I’ve been using it in the color bloom which is a beautiful “sensual shimmery pink” as Sephora describes it. I don’t really notice any shimmer to it, just a bit of a gloss like finish without the stickiness. It’s a very natural lip color that basically amplifies my natural lip color. I’m excited to start looking for lip colors for the fall so stay tuned for that!

BRUSHES

Sonia Kashuk Powder Brush - I use this brush for my all-over face foundation. It’s only $12 and it’s super soft!

Sonia Kashuk Contour Brush - I use this brush for my “bronzer” foundation. It’s only $9 and the angled contour shape makes it easy to apply in a natural way.

Sonia Kashuk Blush Brush - as the name mentions, I use this to apply my blush. A great deal again at only $9.

*A makeup brush reminder:

  • Don’t forget to clean your brushes!!! It’s something so easy but yet often overlooked. If you have to, set reminders in your phone so you don’t forget. I typically clean mine every two weeks. If I’m getting a facial [lately I’ve been getting about 2-3 a year] I make sure to clean mine the morning of, regardless of how long it’s been since I cleaned them. I use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo to clean mine so it’s extremely gently on the brushes…and smells amazing!

There you have it, my 5 minute everyday makeup routine! I hope y’all found this helpful and liked the little tips, tricks and reminders I added in. What’s your favorite makeup product that you can’t live without? Share below in the comments!
