5 Ways to Beat Winter Dryness
If you’re like me, winter weather means dry air and dry skin - two things I’m not a fan of. I already have pretty dry skin so the winter air just amplifies it making my skin crack and flake [eww, gross]. Thankfully I’ve found ways to combat that and keep my skin looking soft and silky smooth even in the depths of winter. Here’s what I’ve been loving lately…
DRUNK ELEPHANT PROTINI POLYPEPTIDE CREAM - adding a good mositurizer to my skincare routine is crucial during the winter time. Santa Claus knows my love for clean beauty and plopped this in my stocking for Christmas and it is a game changer my friends! First off, can we talk about the packaging?! Beautiful yet so practical! The formula is smooth, lightweight, free of the “suspicious 6” [essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical screens, fragrance/dyes & SLS] and doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy. It is a bit higher priced but I promise you it is well worth it!
FRANKLIN & WHITMAN CUTICLE SERUM - I don’t know about you but my cuticles are one of the first things I noticed when my skin is getting dry. No one wants cracked hands or gross cuticles and thankfully, this cuticle serum does the trick! It is super easy to apply and you just brush the serum at the base of your nails and on your cuticles. I typically use this 1-2 times a week. [I also recommend their hair serum if you get dry, brittle hair in the winter - I talked about it in my go-to hair products post!]
HOMEDICS PORTABLE PERSONAL ULTRASONIC COOL MIST HUMIDIFIER - these cool mist humidifiers are my new friends! I have 3 of them throughout my apartment: 1 in my bedroom and 2 in my living/dining/kitchen area [it’s an open concept style space]. I love how small and compact these are since so many you see out there are huge and not really aesthetically pleasing. The portion where the water goes is also pretty clear and no where near as blue as most you will see on the market. These little things last up to 10 hours, use filtered water and give off a cool mist to add moisture back into the air. I definitely notice a difference in the air in my apartment. It doesn’t feel as stuffy and dry which means my skin, airways and all that jazz aren’t as dry either.
LOTION UNDER SOCKS - this one sounds a bit weird and I always thought my mom was crazy when she suggested I do this for my dry feet but y’all…it actually works! All you do is put a decent amount of lotion on your feet and then put socks on and basically let your feet marinade in the lotion. It is the strangest thing but it works! I’m not one to wear socks to bed at night but I will to keep my feet soft.
STAY HYDRATED & EAT WARMING FOODS - this one might seem super basic but making sure you are staying hydrated in dry weather is important. I always have a water bottle with me and if I ever get into a slump where I’m not drinking enough water, I’ll add some lemon and ginger to the water and that does the trick. It is also important in the colder months to make sure you are eating warming foods [think seasonal]. It’s a simple thing but it helps do the trick!
